Well, here we are. Three months into 2019. At the beginning of the year, I set myself some goals for the year ahead so I thought I would write a post on how everything is going so far.
When I began blogging again at the beginning of the year, I specifically didn’t set myself any blogging goals. I didn’t want to put any pressure on myself to write too often because I knew I would stress myself out if I had writers block (which has stopped me blogging in the past). Since January, I have surprised myself at how often my creative juices have been flowing and I’m really pleased to report back that I have been writing consistently and my page views have been ticking nicely! Not bad for a newbie!
Since I have been doing so well, I thought I would add some blogging goals. During 2019, I would like to:
- Go self-hosted
- Learn to manage SEO
- Learn to use Pinterest better
If you have any recommendations or suggestions for these goals, please please please leave a comment below! I’m still very baffled by all the lingo and not quite sure where to start.
In terms of writing but not blogging, I would love to have started fiction writing again by the end of the year.
Okay, let’s have a look at the official goals I set at the beginning of the year:
Finish and pass my MSc in Psychology
The course doesn’t officially end until the first week in September and I probably won’t know my final grade until October. I gave myself that goal because, at the time, I was really struggling and desperately wanted to quit. However, things have improved! My assignment results have been coming back really positive and so far I’m on track to receive a Commendation (also known as a Merit) grade so I’m pleased with my progress there.
Be so organised that I don’t have to pay for a moving van to take my things to the midlands.
I’m so organised I won’t need a van because I bought my first car! I’ll still need to be organised enough to make sure I make the transition in as few trips as possible…
Learn calligraphy
I’ve been so busy with blogging and assignments that I haven’t actually had chance to use the wonderful sets my parents bought me for Christmas. Once my main bulk of assignments are done at the end of May, I’m sure I’ll find time to relax and get started!
Keep meditating
I have definitely been maintaining this goal! Since starting my yoga challenge, I have been moving mindfully every morning Monday – Friday and I can really feel the difference! I also listen to Headspace for 5 minutes before bed, most nights.
Get a job
Although I’ve been looking, I haven’t got anything confirmed for September yet. But it’s still quite early in the year so I’m remaining hopeful. Unless someone would like to pay me to blog, that would be great too!
Read 30 books
This hasn’t been going so well. Although I’ve been really engaging with the writing community on twitter and reading lots of blogs, I’ve neglected my book reading. I’m hoping to find a way of getting into a routine that balances uni work, blogging (and the social media that it comes with) and my hobbies (reading and exercise). Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Visit my best friend in France
This is most likely a summer event that is absolutely going to happen if it kills me.
Get stronger
I’ve been working well with my PT, Gary, and I can definitely feel a difference. He’s been pushing me recently to use heavier weights, so I must be getting stronger!
Try more recipes
I have been trying some new recipes recently but a couple of them I didn’t actually like which is why I never shared them on my blog. I do sometimes buy the same things every week as when I’m short on time, it’s easier to stick to cooking what I know. You can keep up with the food I make on a daily basis over on my instagram.
Learn to ski better
If you have been reading my blog recently, you will have seen my post on my ski holiday in Bulgaria with James. My skiing skills increased ten-fold! Our instructor was fantastic and now that I’ve had a rest, I’m already itching to go back again!
So there we are! My January to March review of my blog. I’m very much looking forward to the next few months and progressing with my writing.

It’s good progress for the first 3 months. Good luck for all your 2019 goals.
Thank you so much!
These are some great goals, and I particularly relate to your struggles with the reading. I work full time and am really trying to put in the effort with my own blog, but the result of that is that my aim to read consistently has kind of gone out the window. Also – and this is less advice and more a comment – I am actually going self-hosted at the end of this week with Lyrical Host! Obviously I can’t comment on them properly yet but so far they have been extremely lovely and extremely helpful 🙂 Anyway, what I mean by this extremely long comment is: good luck! It sounds like you’ll have lots to look forward to for the rest of the year.
Thank you so much! I’ll be sure to check Lyrical Host out. I’m doing as much research as I can! I still haven’t even picked my unread book, and the more I think about it, the more I’m starting to stress out which makes me less inclined to read. Talk about a vicious cycle!
