I DID IT! I bought my first car.
My closest friends know that this is a really big deal for me because I passed my test 5 years ago and I haven’t had a lot of experience driving since. I’ve been putting off buying a car because I’m so nervous to get back behind the wheel but this week, I took the plunge – don’t worry! I’m going to have a few refresher lessons to get me back up to speed (pun intended.)
My experience of buying the car has actually been really stressful. The pressure from car salesmen at the dealerships is really off-putting because they hound you as soon as you walk through the door. On one occasion, I genuinely just wanted to look and somehow ended up sat at a desk, about to give my details on the verge of tears because the sales man just wasn’t listening to me.
I also almost ended up on a PCP payment plan which I know might work for some people but I didn’t feel comfortable at all. From the offset, it sounded almost too good to be true and when my parents did some calculations, I realised it wasn’t right for me. I don’t want to put anyone off PCP but please don’t rush into it like I almost did.
I decided to buy a Hyundai i10 because it’s the perfect size for me. I’m still not used to parking properly so I wanted something fairly short to make life easier for myself.
The dealership I ended up buying it from were really nice and made me feel very comfortable. It is so important to listen to your gut throughout the whole process. After finding the first i10 I looked at, I felt really uneasy once I got home. I kept questioning my decision. I then realised it wasn’t the car I had a problem with, it was the sale itself. I pulled out, got my deposit back and restarted my search for a car.
Within the same week, I finalised the sale on my lovely little Hyundai with Evans Halshaw in Leeds and I haven’t looked back since. A big thank you to my cousin Andrew for all his help and to the lads at the dealership.
My first weekend drive
My first little outing in the car was with my grandma and I took her to Morrison’s. Today, we took a longer route through Gildersome, towards Drighlington and Tong garden centre.
One small step for man, one giant leap for Charlotte.
