As my theme this month is self-love, I wanted to talk about what self-love means to me and give you some simple ways to love yourself more.
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll know that I often struggle with my self-esteem and body image. The feelings that come with low self-esteem can often be really overwhelming which is why I preach so much about body positivity. If I can help even one person feel better about themselves, then that’s a win for me.
What self-love means to me.
When I think of self-love, I think of accepting myself exactly as I am, in that moment. I also like to think about steps I could take to work towards a stronger well-being. Things like, taking time away from social media to focus on myself. I’ve detailed lots of specific activities in my Month of Me calendar which you can download here.
The most important part of practising self-love is tailoring it to you. This is why I’ve put together three simple things you can do.

Simple ways to love yourself more.
- Spend time doing something you love without any distractions. This could be reading, writing, painting, exercising, whatever you get joy from. The important point here is doing it without distractions. When you’re distracted, you’re telling yourself that what you’re doing isn’t important, which means you’re not really putting yourself first. Make the effort to completely switch off when you’re having ‘me time’.
- Leave yourself little notes around the house with kind messages on. Psychologically, the more we are exposed to something, the more we like it. So if you leave yourself messages telling yourself how great you are, your self-love can only benefit!
- Let go of past negativity. We can’t change the past, but we can reflect on the events that happened and focus on moving forward. Allowing past negativity to sit like a heavy weight on your shoulders will only block your path to self-love. Reflect. Accept. Let it go.
